Interactive CAC Registration Guide
1Choose Your Business Structure
First, decide what kind of business you want to register. The two most common options for small businesses are:
-
Understand Business Name: The simplest and cheapest option, perfect for freelancers and sole proprietors. You and the business are legally the same entity.
-
Understand Limited Liability Company (LTD): A more formal structure that turns your business into its own separate legal entity. This protects your personal assets and is needed for investment.
Recommendation: If you are just starting out, a Business Name is usually the best choice. You can always upgrade to an LTD later as your business grows.
2Choose and Reserve Your Name
Before you can register, you need a unique name that no one else is using.
- Visit the official CAC Pre-Registration portal online.
- Conduct a Public Name Search to check if your desired business name is available.
- Apply to reserve your available name (this costs a small fee, around ₦500).
3Complete the Registration Forms
After your name is approved, you will fill out the main registration forms online with your business and personal details.
- Gather business details (nature of business, address).
- Gather personal details (Name, Address, Phone, NIN, and a valid ID).
- Fill out the online pre-registration form accurately.
4Pay the Official Filing Fees
Once you’ve filled out the forms, you will be prompted to pay the official CAC registration fees.
- Pay the registration fee (typically around ₦10,000 for a Business Name) securely online via Paystack or Remita.
5Download Your Documents
After payment, the CAC will review your application. Once approved, you can download your official documents.
- Wait for the approval notification email from the CAC.
- Log back into the CAC portal and download your Certificate of Registration and Status Report.
